The Chipper Day Program is returning to Marin for the 2023 season! We are excited to announce that the chipper program is back for 2023 and preseason sign-ups are open now! This year, the program has restructured to improve the season while still guaranteeing the same excellent service you have come to expect.

  • The chipper program will now offer 5 pickup opportunities to all residents within the MWPA jurisdiction. These events will be spaced evenly through the season and will occur roughly every 5 weeks for all residents
  • The signup website has been improved! Residents will now be able to “drop a pin” at the exact location where they will be placing their pile. Piles will still need to be located close to the roadway and in an easily visible location for the crews.
  • Residents will now be able to view their reservation status, so that they can verify if the pickup is still outstanding or has been retrieved if they are away from home. They will also be able to cancel from the same viewing page.
  • Text alerts will be sent out at the beginning of each event week to remind those who have signed up that the chipper is coming.

The Chipper Day program is a great resource for residents who are looking to remove hazardous vegetation and create defeasible space around their home. The program’s increased pickup schedule will ensure that all residents have ample opportunities to take advantage of the service throughout the year. To sign up, please visit https://reserve.chipperday.com/marin and enter your address to view the dates that the chipper will be in your area and to sign up! If you have any questions, please email chipper@firesafemarin.org.

A unique learning experience

In the spirit of countywide community preparedness, the San Rafael Fire Department, Office of Emergency Services (SRFD/OES) welcomed members of the Marin County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) as part of a tour around the San Rafael Public Safety Center (PSC), a state-of-the-art public safety facility recently built in August 2020.

In this tour, Marin VOAD members learned about the City’s preparedness efforts that support timely Fire and EMS response as well as citywide response coordination through the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). An EOC is a strategic centralized location that facilitates city coordination of various emergency response functions. If activated, the EOC is ramped up and operated under the Incident Command System (ICS) to address community needs and facilitate overall coordination with city partners. Marin VOAD members were able to see and understand the concept of an EOC and what their role would look like as part of the wider community stakeholder response, should they be called upon to staff the City or County EOC.

Who is part of Marin VOAD

Marin VOAD members are comprised of community-based, faith-based and non-profit organizations with established programs and services that directly benefit community residents. Given their strategic level of engagement in the community, these organizations play a critical role throughout Marin County facilitating preparedness outreach and response operations in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Marin VOAD is part of the wider National VOAD coalition, which is represented throughout the country at state, local and regional level. Learn more about the Marin VOAD and others located in NorCal by visiting the California VOAD website.
